Comfort with style. Sporty but chic. These are a couple of ways to describe the Athleisure trend that was big on the runways for SS 2015. The tennis dress was re-invented by many designers this season and Fay, from Italy, blinged it out for evening with white sequins. Another coveted dress is this chocolate brown leather design from Fendi. Perfect for this cool Toronto summer.
Been There Still There
There are some brands that have always subscribed to an athletic esthetic. L.A.M.B. always mixed athletic style with rock and roll glam. It defines the brand and really works for it. Founder Gwen Stefani lives in that look and she translated it well to the brand.
Lululemon expanded rapidly into the leisure wear market. No longer just for the yoga studio, their tops, jackets and pants have become the uniform for running errands, going shopping and casual Fridays.
Couture Tennis
Raf Simon at Dior took the tennis dress to the height of couture. If you’ve got 5 minutes, watch this video on the making of it. Clearly Raf has a talented team able to execute his vision for Dior. Thanks to Refinery 29 for telling the story.
Paper Art
I definitely wanted to do a tennis look but with a bit of an edge. I also wanted to add a bag because I am a huge fanatic for handbags. Let me know how you wear Athleisure. Drop a comment here.
