Colours of 2016

Pantone announced the colours of 2016. Yes you read it right – colours.

Usually Pantone chooses 1 colour to represent the year but for 2016 they chose Rose Quartz 13-1520 and Serenity 15-3919. Both colours are soft and soothing. They have a calming effect and with what is happening in the world they are needed more than ever.

Pantone sets the colour standard for the world. Product designers, graphic designers and fashion designers look to Pantone for pure colour.

Let’s take a look at some SS2016 collections and see which designers showed these colours.

I love this Alexander McQueen long dress. The transparency and ruffles compliment the softness of Rose Quartz. The Burberry dress in the center combines feminine edginess. Carolina  Herrera shows shades of pink including Rose Quartz.

Serenity was slightly more challenging to find. Chanel incorporates Serenity into a lovely textured dress. J Crew has a cropped pant suit as part of their collection. Marc Jacobs showed a long trench coat.

Think about these two colours when you’re planning your purchases for Spring/Summer 2016.

I created this cropped top and midi skirt from japanese paper in rose quartz and serenity. I really like how these colours look together and will definitely try to mix them in Spring and Summer.
